Buddha Mahotsav 2005 :
The Buddha Mahotsav Festival is being celebrated at Dirang, a picturesque
tourist town in West Kameng District from 24 to 26 Feb 2005. The Festival
aims at projecting the tourism potentials and Buddhist values as a symbol of
integrity and communal harmony. The festival highlights include Monastic
Dances, Traditional Tribal Music, Song & Dances, Religious Procession,
Food Festival, Handloom & Handicraft Exhibition, Flower/Horticulture
Show, Adventure Sports like Trekking, Rafting & Hot Air Ballooning,
Cultural Nights and other Special Events.
The Buddha Mahotsav Festival at Dirang aims to provide marketing
opportunities for local handicrafts, to unveil the variety of rich local
cuisine, to promote tourism in the State and to preserve indigenous games,
arts, crafts and cultural forms which are on the verge of extinct. Dirang is
located at 5000 ft above sea level, 45 km from Bomdila, 200 km from Tezpur
and 145 km short of Tawang. Dirang is a land of gentle Monpas and is famous
for Kalchakra Monastary, Ngingmapa Monastary, Kiwi & Apple Orchards, Hot
Water Spring, Yak Research Centre and Medicinal plantations. It is also well
known for Dirang Dzong (former Tibetan Jail & Adm Centre), Sangti Valley
(home of Black Neck Seberian Crane during winter) and Chug Valley which are
all hiking distance away.
One can reach Dirang via Guahati and Tezpur in Assam by air, train and road
surface. There are numerous daily train services and connecting flights to
Gauhati from various cities of the country. Tezpur is connected with Kolkata
by Alliance Air twice a week. A good number of Tata Sumos, Buses and Taxis
operate in this route. There is also Helicopter service to Dirang and Tawang
twice a week from Gauhati. However, accommodation is limited and advance
reservation is must!
The Lakes:
Crystal clear, shimmering mirrorlike under the sparkling blue skies, the
picture postcard lakes appear as if trying to outshine each other. Notto be
missed are pangang-Tang-Tso (17 km away), Sangetsar (formed during the
earthquake of 1950 and 42 km away) and the Bagga jang (10 km from the Sela
top diversion, this one is known for its mystical sights like candles
burning at night, apparitions of Gompa, gold coins and jewels. .
Brahmaputra
Darshan (19 & 20 Jan 2004)
The Brahmaputra Darshan Festival aims at projecting the Brahmaputra river
as a symbol of integrity and communal harmony. The Brahmaputra Darshan
Festival is being celebrated at Roing, Dibang Valley on 29 & 30 Jan
2004. The festival highlights the traditional song and dances of different
tribes of the area. Indigenous games and sports like elephant race,
traditional boat race, Didi - mock war game of Mishimis and exhibition of
traditional herbal medicines, etc are other important highlights of the
grand celebration . Apart from this one can look at rich handicraft and
handloom in the exhibition stalls put up by different districts of Arunachal
Pradesh.
Festival of
Arunachal 2005
The Festival of Arunachal is celebrated commemorating the Statehood Day of
the State on 20th February every year. This festival aims to capture the
essence of the State displaying its splendour of the rich diverse life of
its people. In the evening cultural programme is staged representing
different tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. The Statehood Day is celebrated
through out the State including the District and Circle level with colorful
parades by armed forces and school children. Sports and cultural
competitions are organized with songs, dances and merry making being part
and parcel of the celebration.
